How to Prepare for a Trade Show (Part 1 of 3)
You are booked and getting ready to attend a Trade Show. There are multiple keynote speakers, presentations, and vendors that await you. The numerous events can be overwhelming to choose from and decide which to attend. Below are our top tips to help you prepare for the trade show to stay organized and get the most out of the experience.
#1 Set goals for what you want to get out of the trade show.
Take a look at the speakers and presentations that will be available to you. Do your research and decide which are the most beneficial to your agency for you to attend. Make a list of “Must See” versus “Want to See.” The “Must See” list includes speakers and vendors that will most benefit you and your agency, such as tech talks if your firm is looking to take on a new timesheet system. Check which, if any, of the vendors require an appointment and reach out ahead of time to ensure your spot.
#2 Plan your days according to your goals, the schedule, and the floor plan.
Make sure you have a copy of the floor plan and agenda before you get to the location. Go over the floor plan to get an understanding of where each vendor will be to help you plan out your timing. Give yourself a time cushion in case one conversation or presentation runs longer than expected. This is an excellent time to follow your “Must Sees” on social media to stay in the loop. You don’t want to miss out if a vendor switches booths or time slots.
#3 Pack smarter!
Throughout your time at the trade show, it is likely that you will pick up quite a few Swag Bags, business cards, and other handouts and freebies. Bring a lightweight bag to carry around everything that you collect. Be sure to bring plenty of your own business cards to hand out during the events, as well as a pen and paper to take notes at the presentations that you attend. You will be doing a lot of walking, so be sure to wear professional yet comfortable footwear.
Planning your time is key to successful attendance at your Trade Show. Creating a personal schedule will result in a rich and worthwhile experience that you can relay to your colleagues and team.
